With each new career pursued in a lifetime, there is usually a steep learning curve. Last September, I was hired as the first Foundation Manager of the Bozeman Area Community Foundation (BACF). The BACF was formed in 2003 to serve both donors and nonprofits in the Bozeman area. BACF strives to nurture a culture of philanthropy by building and stewarding permanent community assets, educating area donors about creative ways to give of themselves and their resources, and supporting the area’s nonprofits through grantmaking and capacity building. We could not do our work as effectively in the Bozeman area without Foundant Technologies.
Needless to say, in this new role I had endless opportunities to learn new skills; however, those opportunities sometimes overwhelmed me. I was hired to enable the foundation to become a more proactive leader and to establish programs that serve donors and the nonprofit sector – all of which was new to me. When our grant cycle rolled around this spring, I was worried that I would not have the capacity to manage it effectively, even with our new Foundant Grant Lifecycle Manager (GLM) system. Lucky for me, Foundant hosted a “You Fly, We Buy” event in Bozeman at the end of February.
During this free “You Fly, We Buy” event, I had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with foundations from all over the country as we learned about the ins and outs of the GLM software. The Foundant staff was incredibly generous with their time, expertise, and resources to insure that we all left the event feeling equipped to utilize our Foundant software to its greatest capabilities.
After completing our grant cycle this March, I cannot imagine walking through that process without my thorough training from Foundant Technologies and the use of their granting software. Foundant streamlines our granting process and allows us to organize our work more effectively and efficiently so that I can focus on other tasks at hand. Our grantees have commented on how they love the easy, online accessibility of our grant applications and reports.
I am grateful that our Board of Directors had the foresight to learn about the Foundant grant management software. It has made me feel more confident in our granting process and, best of all, it’s easy to use! When we take on new roles or careers, it’s important to find ways to simplify all the new tasks and systems. Foundant Technologies helped me do just that.
